Submission for Brackeys Game Jam 2020.2

ABOUT

'The Rewinder (Jam)' is my first ever game jam game, made completely by me (except for the audiomanager), atleast under 48 hours! It is a grid based, turn based puzzle game with 10 levels where you can rewind the enemies by clicking on them! I know this game isn't perfect in any way (especially because this was my first game jam) but feel free to give me advice, even just for this itch page and thanks for playing!

HOW TO PLAY

[Explained in game]
  • You are the blue square
  • Click on the green squares around you to move
  • Walk into the goal (the yellow square) to finish the level
  • Press 'r' to restart the level
  • Enemies will instantly kill you if they hit you
  • Enemies can only walk up, down, left and right, but you can walk diagonally aswell
  • Click on enemies to rewind them if you have enough rewinds (shown at the top of the screen)
  • Walk onto buttons (small red squares) to open the gates
  • Enemies can also open gates

i got decently far but alas i couldn't beat it amazing game it kinda goes off screen at some parts

Thanks, theres no real reason for the level to go offscreen but it does stop you from using the rewind on really far away enemies on big levels, which makes it seem more fair (the levels I made are pretty small though)

it was some of the tutorial text that went off do to the glitch effect i think

Oh ok, that was also on purpose, I wanted the player to not have to read everything at the same time, but yeah, I will think about that next time.

I'm terrible at this kind of game so I didn't go very far, but the time I spent was interesting and fun!
Only small downside was the audio, but everything else was cool!

Thanks for the reply, its strange how I felt like it was pretty easy but that is the second comment I've gotten about the difficulty, I will definetely take that into account next time. And yeah I could have made a song but I just literally couldn't be bothered lol

I feel that, I thought my own entry was super simple until I realized half the people that played it stuggled to figure out what to even do haha

This was a very fun concept. And over all felt really good to play. The game could use with some music, and a few small tune ups here and here. Such as an occasional glitch where enemies would reverse in top of a wall, proceed to exit the level and the float around outside it.

Yeah I completely agree with all of that, I was going to make music but it turned out that listening to nothing was better than listening to my music lol. Also I don't really know why they go through walls but it was worse before

Yeah fair enough. I had a similar issue with the boxes in my game. They used to be super fiddly, and they are still kinda fiddly, but they were so much worse.
Anyway. I wish you luck in the jam! :D And will be rating your game the moment the ratings are available :
